Gathering Place Iowa City to Host Special Hawkeyes vs. Cyclones Tailgate Sept. 12

Community members are invited to join at 390 Gathering Place Lane, Iowa City, at 10 a.m.

RSVPs encouraged.

IOWA CITY, IOWA (Aug. 27, 2026) — Gathering Place Iowa City, an all-new retirement community designed for health and wellbeing in all aspects of life, is hosting a special tailgate at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. The free event will take place on the Gathering Place campus at the model home located at 390 Gathering Place Lane in Iowa City.

“This will be a fun event for both our current residents and future residents,” said Marc Long, director of community engagement and sales. “At Gathering Place, creating community is something we focus on. We know social health is a critical part of a person’s wellbeing. As with our work at Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls, we’re creating a space that promotes community and connection. What better way to connect than with some friendly cross-state rivalry?”

The tailgate event will feature a breakfast buffet, fun activities with prizes and more. Themed drinks will also be available.

Gathering Place recently began pre-selling condo units at the campus. Some freestanding homes and villas are still available as well. Early residents have enjoyed special chef-prepared community dinners, social events, Thrivera lifestyle coaching and other events and amenities that will continue as the retirement community is developed.

“This is a great opportunity to see the community,” said Long. “As community members become part of the progress while units are being developed, we’re updating them and walking them through — similar to when building on the general market.”

“Thrivera is our well-being partner, and through them we are addressing all the dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual,” said Lindsey Moore, Business Development and Thrivera Services Coordinator. “Some of the amenities we’re planning at Gathering Place include a restaurant, golf simulator, community room, pool, wellness and group fitness space, and massage and esthetics space.”

The tailgate event is free. RSVPs should be completed online by Sept. 9 at GatheringPlaceIC.com. For information on Gathering Place Iowa City, visit GatheringPlaceIC.com.
